Join Us

The Wellington Film Society is open to everyone.  Most screenings are open to members only, and Censor’s ratings apply.
Membership gives you free entry to all our screenings. New members can join at any time of the year, with membership running for 12 months from the month of joining.

Screenings are in the Grand at the Embassy Theatre, 10 Kent Terrace, at 6.15 pm on Monday. This year’s programme runs from from 27 February to 4 December. That’s 35 screenings for less than $3.50 a movie – just $120 yearly, with Discounted and Youth membership even less.  And you can try a Three-Film Sampler and upgrade to full membership later.

Membership Options

FULL-YEAR MEMBERSHIP

Full membership offers unlimited entry to the film season
and offers other benefits including:​

  • Discounts at the New Zealand International Film Festival (NZIFF)
  • Free entry to any other New Zealand Film Society screenings nationwide
  • Discounts at some local cinemas
  • Free admission for a guest to any one screening

There are three price levels available for a Full-Year Membership:

Discounted$110Available to full-time students over 16, senior citizens and registered beneficiaries (with ID), members of WIFT
Youth$50Available if you are 16 years or under.  (A few films may be classified as only available to those over the age of 16 and so if you qualify for this membership, you will not be able to view these)

THREE FILM SAMPLER

This limited membership gives access to any three films for twelve months from joining.

  • It is valid for 12 months, and only for the person named on the card 
  • It does not qualify for discounts at the New Zealand International Film Festival or other concessions.
  • It can be upgraded to a full-year membership by paying the price difference. The expiry date of the full membership will be that of the original 3-Film Sampler. 
  • Lost 3 Film Samplers cards cannot be replaced.
