WFS brings quizzing back to the film festival

Wellington Film Society (WFS) was delighted to host its annual film quiz for the first time since 2019 on 8 August 2023. Part of Whānau Mārama New Zealand Annual Film Festival, the quiz provides the capital’s cinephiles the chance to test their film smarts through five rounds of tough questions.

This year we were hosted by the brilliant Welsh Dragon Bar, the only Welsh bar in the Southern hemisphere. We took over the entire bar space with 12 teams of four to six people competing to take home some great prizes provided by WFS, NZIFF and their sponsors (Garage Project, Spy Valley Wines, Native sparkling, and Proper Crisps), as well as free passes provided by Embassy team and Events Cinema.

The role of quiz master was again ably-handled by WFS committee members and film handler, Miles Buckingham, who was quick on his feet and brought his humour and knowledge to proceedings. Teams battled through:

  • The sound round
  • The animal-themed picture round
  • The General round
  • The Film Society over the last ten years round, and
  • The geography round.

It was a fun event with a great atmosphere and delicious food and drinks throughout. After five rounds there was a real spread of results across the teams. Top prize went to How to have quiz?, with the runner up being Design for quizzing. Congratulations to them and we hope you enjoyed your prize packs!

We’re already looking forward to next year! For those of you curious about our questions, we’re intending to share them with you next year in the lead up to our 2024 quiz! Keep an eye on our website and newsletters!
