Vive le cinéma!

L’OR French Film Festival Aotearoa 2023 is running from 7 June to 28 June.

The Embassy hosts a NZ premiere of Masquerade, an official selection from Cannes Film Festival 2022. The screening at 6pm on 7 June is in The Embassy Grand, and is preceded by wine and cheese from 5:15pm.

Opening from a line from Somerset Maugham that reads: “The Riviera isn’t only a sunny place for shady people“, master filmmaker Nicolas Bedos sets the scene for his latest feature , a rollicking ride, reminiscent of a classic from Hollywood’s golden era. The film blurb promises glamour, sex, money and manipulation combining in a deadly vortex on the unassuming shores of the dreamy Côte d’Azur…

The festival runs until 28 June, so if you désir a drama, something scénique, très thrilling, ou peut-être une comédie, there are 23 great films to chose from. As well as The Embassy, you can see them at Light House theatres, Penthouse Cinema and Cafe, and Roxy Cinema.

And of course, if you enjoy French films, we have seven great French films in our own programme starting with France on 28 August. Thanks to Institut Français and the Embassy of France for their support.
