Opportunity to join our team

As our AGM comes around, our thinking has turned to what skills we would love to add to the Wellington Film Society volunteer committee. With so many members in 2024, there is more for our volunteers to do but more people to draw them from! We elect our committee at the AGM each year, but we can co-opt new committee members at any time – so if now doesn’t work please feel free to get in touch in a few months!

Wellington Film Society is entirely run by volunteers who are committed to providing special artistic and entertaining experiences of cinema to our members.

There are a range of roles you could play on the committee but standard duties include ensuring the smooth running of our screenings, attending monthly governance meetings, assisting with various publicity or organisational tasks, and volunteering at the Whānau Mārama, the New Zealand International Film Festival.

The skills and tasks we’ve identified as being of particular importance to us at the moment are:

  • Writing articles, stories and other content for our website on films or local movie news
  • Helping to put together our weekly newsletter and lend another hand with social media
  • Photography and/or design skills (access to key tools like adobe suite would be really useful)
  • Note taking and secretariat skills
  • Commercial partnerships – increasing our sponsorship revenue from businesses.

If you would like to help out with one of these tasks but not formally join the committee then please reach out so we can discuss – tasks like being another pair of hands to help our with writing or working on our website or occasionally taking some photos at significant screenings would be a massive help.

Please email filmsociety@gmail.com to express your interest – we will also make the call for volunteers on the night at our AGM.
