First selection of 2024 films

We’re busy preparing our 2024 programme and look forward to sharing all the details with you in the new year.

Here’s some of themes and titles that will follow on from our opening night film – Stanley Kubrick’s Barry Lyndon.

Themes:

  • Korean cinema – including films by some of Korea’s most notable directors, including Bong Joon Ho. We will be screening his film, Memories of Murder.
  • New Zealand cinema, we’re looking forward to Christine Jeff’s Rain.
  • 80s comedy – Martin Scorsese is back on the programme, with After Hours.
  • Modern world cinema from a variety of countries, including America, Egypt and Pakistan – including Kelly Reichardt’s First Cow.
  • 70s Sci-fi – including Douglas Trumbull’s Silent Running. 
  • A series of the excellent British director Carol Reed, including The Fallen Idol.
  • Cult and classic, including another film with a connection to our most attended 2023 screening, Taxi Driver – Paul Schrader’s Mishima: A Life in Four Chapters

  1. If this is just the taster then bring on the main cinematic course. Thanks for a magnificent year in the dark. The Society is is one the main reasons I love Te Whanganui a Tara, Wellington so much. Sitting in the dark, amidst people enjoying Large screen projection is a major highlight of my week. Keep up the excellent work team and a Meri Kirihimete, Merry Christmas to all of you.
