This Peabody Award winning documentary presents a gripping story of corruption and highlights the importance of investigative journalism.
On October 30, 2015 a metal band performed at the nightclub Colectiv in Bucharest. A pyrotechnics malfunction caused a fire to break out killing 27 people, and injuring 180. In the following days, 37 more victims died due to inadequate healthcare. Collective follows dual stories of investigative journalism from Romanian newspaper Gazeta Sporturilor, and the government response inside the Ministry of Health.
Colectiv is the first Romanian film to be nominated for an Oscar, receiving nods for both Best Documentary Feature and Best International Feature Film at the 93rd Academy Awards.
“This is truly a documentary for our times, deserving of widespread exposure.”
